The second installment of our mixtape Series of Chef hats get is color way from the Chop Suey mixtape by Phatboy Chef. This is one of my favorite color ways it came out dope. The return of the Fly Emcee is upon us with a slightly different approach. Arriving June 8th is Ro Spit’s, A Different Arrangement. Ro Spit has been propelled by his widely played OH S#!T Project which elevated him from the pack of rappers without an identity to an artist with a heavy broadband following…

Artist inspiration can be channeled through many unexpected outlets; it forces them to take an angle that may not have been visible before. For Ro Spit, that inspiration arrived in the form of fellow Michigan representative Mayer Hawthorne and his Strange Arrangement. Understanding the notion that music never limits itself is a very liberating mindset. Ro acknowledges “I don’t have certain or specific things that inspire me. I just know when I feel it, and then just hit the gas.” Ro Spit made a transition from reverberating bass patterns to trumpets and cymbals, showing his diversity and musical dexterity. And he almost did it overnight. Ro quickly took his time and completed the project in less than a month, another ode to his voracious work ethic. The project cradles the listener and rocks them through unexpected twists and turns, going from juxtapose storylines to outright semi-automatic verses; or as rappers say – Bars!

This arrangement is comprised of the musical production from Mayer Hawthorne’s previous arrangement, as confusing as that sounds it makes perfect harmony. With no features and special guests, Ro Spit is the solitary emcee to finesse this delicate music. There are many superlatives that could be used to explain this outstanding work, but for now let’s just call it…Different.

On Saturday May 22 we will be releasing a pack of hats that we are calling our “Breast Cancer Awareness Pack”. Proceeds from each one of these hats will go to help find a cure for Breast Cancer. For this pack we have taken each one of our current New Era designs and given the a Pink and Black color way. Breast Cancer is a something that has affected so many of us in one way or another and we feel that it is necessary for us to do our part to raise awareness for this cause.

When it comes to the Stan Smith there is no questioning the popularity and overall impact the model has had since it was first released by adidas in 1965. Getting given the treatment by a slew of collaborators over the last decade has meant a number of make-ups of the Stan Smith have been available, with varying degrees of impact…

The Stan Smith Mid though, hasn’t born the brunt of attention like its lower cut sibling, leaving room for some killer variations on the collaboration front. This joint effort, named ‘Raw Dogs’ sees OG New York based street-wear brand 10.Deep sprinkle some of their style on the Stan Smith Mid to produce a version worthy of both brand’s combined heritage.  The name plays off the rawhide laces and graphical monster mouth sock-liner while taking inspiration from the ongoing series of sticker attack tees from 10.Deep.

The upper is constructed from a premium suede in a muted Iron and Chrome colourway that reflects the 10.Deep motto – ‘forget everyone and listen to yourself’ – a motto that is reflected in further features including an embroidered 10.Deep and adidas tongue tag and an oversized embossed 10.Deep logo on the medial side of each upper.

Finished with an embossed combination 10.Deep and Trefoil logo on the heel-tab, the minimal, well thought out branding is the ideal accompaniment to the matching design aesthetic of the Stan Smith.

This Saturday March 16th @ 12pm we will be releasing both the Jordan Retro VI “Oreo” edition and the next Burn Rubber fitted cap. This hat features the classic black and white color-way with a kelly green under-bill and a “Burn Rubber Orange” New Era logo. See you saturday!

Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique (www.burnrubberdetroit.com) and Acapulco Gold (www.runmygame.com) have teamed up to create the “Detroit Riots” collaborative capsule. Both companies are known for creating designs that start conversations, create debates and educate the masses all at the same time. The Detroit Riot series was inspired by the city’s Riots of 1967, that occurred as a direct result of many of the ills that are plaguing our society today like a troubled economy, high unemployment rate, police brutality, dissatisfaction with social conditions and the rapid population decline in many urban areas. The Detroit Riots series brings light to how far we’ve come as a society but also shows how close we are to repeating history if issues are not only addressed but corrected.

Acapulco Gold recently created their “Spit” line of t-shirts, during the bank bailout fiasco that brought light to the financial and insurance giants who were going under due to predatory lending, which occurred in many urban areas. Some of their most popular designs were the plays on AIG, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs.

Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold understand the corruption that occurs in big business and through this “urban renewal project” they are bringing light to the people who have felt disenfranchised for years.

People don’t start riots without reason.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “A riot is the language of the unheard.” BR and AG are officially the voices of the unheard.

To commemorate this collaboration Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold reached out to eight emcees (Ro Spit, One Be Lo, T3, Phatboy Chef, Marv Won, Buff 1, Fatt Father, and Fat Ray) out of Michigan to contribute a verse to a song produced by Black Milk and inspired by the Riots of 67. In addition to the song they have also created a website (detroitriots.burnrubberdetroit.com) where you will find ring tones, wallpapers and more information about the project that releases on December 26, 2009.

Roland “Ro Spit” Coit has been drafted to help re-brand the city of Detroit. The initiative to help attract and rejuvenate the urban sector is sponsored by the Time Inc. unit of Time Warner. An article in the NY Times explains “The whole idea of the contest is that we believe in the renewal of the city,” said Mark Ford, president for the news group at Time Inc. in New York. This is to be accomplished partly by people moving to Detroit with their businesses and creativity, and being there “for the long haul.” In the same NYT article Roland adds ““Detroit is a blank canvas. You’ll find inspiration around every corner. … What you do with it depends on you.”

The contest features 5 different ads that are vying for the ad space in Fortune magazine, a slot valued at $400,000. In addition the ad will be placed on three websites: cnnmoney.com, fortune.com, and time.com. The winner will be announced Dec. 2 at a popular awards ceremony in Detroit known as the D Show.
